Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Litarium collects, why it is needed, where it goes, and how you can control it.

Overview

Litarium LLC (“Litarium,” “we,” or “us”) is a New York limited liability company responsible for the personal information described in this policy. This policy covers our website, app, and support correspondence.

Litarium is coming soon. App features are still in development, including recommendations and matching. The app disclosures below apply when you use an available feature, including during testing. The informational website does not include account sign-in, advertising, or an analytics tracker.

Website visits and support messages

This website does not create a Litarium account or track your reading. Our hosting service processes technical request information, such as an IP address and browser details, to deliver and protect the site. Fonts and images load from the site, not a third-party font service.

If you email us, we receive your email address, message, and any attachments. We use them to answer your request and resolve the issue. Please leave passwords, sign-in codes, and unnecessary personal information out of your message.

Information the app collects

  • Account data: email, display name, optional profile image, and sign-in records supplied through Supabase, Apple, or Google.
  • Library data: books, shelves, progress, ratings, notes, reviews, and reading history you add or import.
  • Camera and barcode data: if you choose barcode scanning, camera frames are processed on your device and are not stored or uploaded. The recognized ISBN is used as a book-search query. Manual entry remains available.
  • Usage data: feature interactions and request metadata used to apply quotas, protect the service, and diagnose problems.
  • Subscription data: store transaction metadata and a hashed app-user identifier handled by RevenueCat. We do not receive your payment-card details.
  • Diagnostics: limited, redacted crash and error information, which may be linked to your account when you are signed in. Raw library content and prompt contents are not included in diagnostic messages.

How we use information

We use this information to run your account, sync your library, provide recommendations and matching you request, show reading insights, manage subscription access, prevent abuse, diagnose problems, and answer support requests. We do not sell or rent personal data.

Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on:

  • Providing the service (contractual necessity): running an account and delivering the app features you request.
  • Our legitimate interests: delivering and securing the website, responding to support requests, preventing abuse, and diagnosing service problems, subject to your rights and interests.
  • Legal obligations: handling valid legal requests and keeping records required by law.
  • Consent: optional processing that requires your permission. You can withdraw that consent without affecting earlier lawful processing.

Account details are needed to create and maintain an account. Profile images and camera access are optional. Declining a permission may limit the feature that uses it.

Service providers

  • Cloudflare hosts the website and handles the technical request information needed to serve it. Email service providers process support correspondence.
  • Supabase provides database, authentication, storage, and server functions.
  • RevenueCat manages subscription status and store notifications.
  • OpenAI processes requests for recommendations. A request may include book titles from your library, but we do not attach your name or email.
  • Apple and Google provide authentication, app distribution, and payment processing.
  • Book-data providers, including Google Books, Open Library, and The New York Times, receive book titles, authors, identifiers, or search terms needed to return book information. They do not receive your Litarium account identity from us.

Providers handle information needed for their role in delivering the service. App stores, sign-in services, and websites you choose to visit may also process information under their independent privacy policies.

Other disclosures

We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law or a valid legal process, protect people and legal rights, or investigate fraud, abuse, and security incidents.

If Litarium is involved in a merger, acquisition, or business transfer, relevant information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable protections and required notice. This does not authorize unrelated new uses of your information.

Before releasing features that let you share content with other people, we will explain who can see it and the available controls. Content you choose to make public may be copied by others and remain outside our control after you remove it.

International processing

Litarium is based in the United States. The providers listed above may process information in the United States or other countries outside the country where you live. Privacy laws may differ between countries.

Where applicable law requires safeguards for a transfer, an appropriate transfer mechanism must be in place before it occurs. Contact us for information about processing locations and the safeguards that apply to your information.

Keeping information secure

We use authenticated services and access controls for account data. The app stores sign-in credentials using secure device storage on iOS and Android. Our public website uses HTTPS. No service can guarantee absolute security; contact us if you believe your account or data is at risk.

Retention and deletion

We keep support correspondence and technical website records only as long as needed to handle requests, protect the service, and meet legal obligations. You can ask us about or request deletion of your support correspondence.

Account and library data are kept while your account is active. An account deletion request, once confirmed, starts a 30-day recovery window. After that window, we permanently remove the account, sign-in, library, profile, raw billing identity, and operational records tied to you.

Restricted, pseudonymous billing and legal evidence may be kept for up to seven years; safety and moderation records for up to two years; and detailed deletion-support receipts for 90 days. A legal hold may extend a specific record when required. Retained records are not used to restore your account or provide the service.

Deleting a Litarium account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription. Subscriptions must be managed through the applicable store.

Your choices and rights

You can stop optional camera access in your device settings. To withdraw consent or ask us to stop an optional use of your information, contact us. This does not affect processing already carried out lawfully.

You can ask for access, correction, export, or deletion by emailing support@thelitarium.com. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to portability, restriction, objection, or a complaint to a data-protection authority. Lawful retention exceptions may apply.

We may ask for information needed to verify your identity or an authorized representative’s authority before fulfilling a request. Where applicable law provides a right to appeal our response, you can contact us to request a review. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

We handle requests without undue delay and within the deadlines required by applicable law. If a request cannot be fulfilled or needs more time where the law permits, we will explain the reason and any available complaint or appeal route.

Age requirement

Litarium is not directed to anyone under 18. If local law requires a higher age, that higher age applies. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone below the applicable minimum age.

Changes and contact

We will change the date above when this policy is updated and provide notice of material changes on the website and, for app users, in the app.

Before introducing a feature that uses personal information for a materially different purpose, we will explain that use and obtain consent where required by law.
